When Disaster Strikes: How Maxwell Roofing Helped a Business Recover After a Tornado

That’s exactly what happened in December 2023, when an EF2 tornado tore through Hendersonville, Tennessee. Aladdin Temp-Rite, a manufacturing company that designs meal delivery systems for healthcare providers, took a direct hit. One of their main manufacturing buildings suffered major roof damage, leaving the facility exposed to the elements.

Matt McCartney, Aladdin’s processing engineer, remembered the shock of seeing the destruction for the first time.

“I was pretty floored by the devastation to the building. It was difficult to get close since there was so much blown off the roof,” he explained.

Several thousand square feet of roofing had been ripped away. As a long-term partner with Aladdin, our team at Maxwell was committed to helping them as quickly as possible. It was a tough situation—but one we were ready to take on.

Proactive Communication When It Mattered Most

In an emergency, every minute counts. That’s why we don’t wait for clients to reach out—we stay ahead of the situation by taking a proactive approach. Kalen Canaday, one of our team members, recognized the tornado’s path and knew Aladdin Temp-Rite might be affected. Within hours, he reached out to check-in.

“Kalen proactively reached out to me directly within a couple of hours of the tornado,” Matt recalled. “He had seen the path of the tornado and recognized we might be impacted. That meant a lot,” he said

A Rapid Response Team on the Ground

Maxwell’s 24/7 response services were another standout factor. Even though it was a Saturday night, one of our foremen made the trip to assess the situation in person. It was too dangerous to get on the roof in the dark, but he quickly figured out what supplies, manpower, and safety precautions would be needed at daybreak. Our first priority was ensuring the building was watertight to prevent further damage.

“The Maxwell team was here onsite at 7 a.m. the next morning with a team of 20-30 guys and all the equipment and materials to make the temporary repairs,” Matt shared. “I was really impressed with how fast they pulled it all together.”

With a clear plan in place, Aladdin could focus on securing their operations while Maxwell Roofing prepared to get to work.

Minimizing Downtime and Maximizing Results

When Matt first assessed the damage, he expected the facility would be shut down for weeks. 

“I figured it’d be a couple of weeks before we were operational again,” he said.

The Maxwell team had other plans—working around the clock to ensure that wasn’t the case. By Monday, the biggest holes had been covered and major leaks were repaired. 

“The Maxwell team was able to make the repairs within two days,” Matt said. “Because of their efforts, the ultimate impact was that we only lost four shifts of production—which was amazing considering the damage.” 

Ongoing Support Every Step of the Way

Even after the emergency repairs were completed, Maxwell Roofing remained actively involved in helping Aladdin navigate the aftermath. 

One of the biggest challenges with a natural disaster is handling insurance claims and structural assessments. Maxwell Roofing referred Aladdin to a reputable engineering firm to evaluate the structural damage and worked directly with the firm and the insurance company to provide essential documentation like infrared scans and core samples. This level of support and guidance has helped Matt navigate the ongoing challenges of maintenance and repairs. 

“I couldn’t recommend Maxwell enough or have another compelling reason to choose another contractor,” he shared.
