Customer Spotlight—Village Green Re-roof

After more than four decades of active involvement in the Nashville real estate market, Nate Greene has established himself as a prominent figure in the commercial real estate sector. He presently holds the position of executive vice president, partner, and co-founder of the Nashville branch of Colliers International, which happens to be the largest locally owned commercial real estate firm in Middle Tennessee. He has received multiple awards from commercial real estate organizations and the Nashville Business Journal. Nate was also named by the Nashville Post as one of the CRE Top 50.

Nate and his family have successfully overseen Greene Hills LLC, a family-based real estate investment group, for nearly half a century. For much of that time, they’ve trusted Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal to provide roofs for many of their commercial construction projects.

A Family-Owned Company with a History of Success

Over the course of 45 years, Greene Hills LLC has evolved from a small real estate development company into a significant player managing numerous properties throughout Nashville. Today, the company specializes in providing support to high-end retail tenants.

As a recognized expert in the Nashville commercial real estate market, Nate Greene has emphasized the importance of fostering strong relationships and collaborating with reputable, locally based companies.

This was the basis for his initial connection with David Maxwell, president of Maxwell Roofing, nearly a decade ago. Nate had this to say about Maxwell Roofing: “Maxwell is responsive and delivers exceptional quality work.”

A Notable Project in the Heart of Green Hills

During our most recent project for Greene Hills, we were asked to re-roof the Village Green property. Originally constructed in 1988, Village Green now hosts nearly a dozen tenants and has witnessed substantial growth since its inception. Situated in the heart of Green Hills, Village Green is a prominent landmark in Nashville, easily recognizable to anyone familiar with the city.

One of the primary challenges for this re-roofing project was conducting the work without disrupting the operations of the current tenants, which include numerous local businesses. The two-story building spans approximately 34,000 square feet on a lot measuring 43,560 square feet. Our team devised a strategic plan to minimize risks during demolition and reduce the space required for materials.

Another unique challenge was executing the project in a high-traffic area. Approximately 25,000 vehicles pass by the property daily along Hillsboro Pike. This demanded creative solutions in terms of logistical planning and safety measures to ensure the project’s efficient, safe completion with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment.

When asked for advice about using Maxwell Roofing as a commercial roofing partner, Nate responded promptly: “Don’t hesitate to use Maxwell; you’ll receive more than you expect.”

We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with Nate and serve as a reliable partner for Greene Hills, LLC, as they continue their mission to provide an exceptional experience for all their retail tenants.

Client Spotlight: Walker Family Partners

The Walker family has been an integral part of the Williamson County community for generations. They founded Walker Family Partners in 1994 to develop and lease automotive retail and service facilities in Franklin, TN. Managing Partner Rob Walker has over 30 years of property management experience in addition to the CPA firm he owns.

Walker Family Partners recognizes the importance of providing the best possible experience for their tenants. So, when they needed to replace the roof on one of their properties, their team recognized the importance of finding a partner who could provide a long-term, reliable roofing system.

The Opportunity

Like most building managers and property owners, The Walker team solicited bids from a variety of roofing companies for this roof replacement project. Before selecting a partner, their team spent time outlining their priorities, learning about various roofing processes, and identifying the key factors that would be most important for the investment. This made a tremendous difference when it came time to decide which bid to select.

“Based on our research, we determined the roofing system proposed by Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal to be superior to the other bids,” Rob shared. “Our decision considered this roof to provide the most trouble-free experience for our tenants over the years, and thus worth the investment.”

The Solution

Maxwell Roofing was able to provide a system that provided Walker Family Partners with peace of mind about the quality and long-term sustainability of their roof. The organization and communication between the two teams also played an important role in creating a strong partnership.

Rob and his team recognized the importance of thinking intentionally and strategically about their investment. This helped them understand that roofing companies offer different materials and processes. As they made their decision, they also compared the long-term cost of maintenance with the alternatives offered by other roofing companies. “Once we did that, Maxwell Roofing was the only choice,” Rob shared. “The building now has a solid roof, far superior to the original roof it replaced.”

Thank you to Walker Family Partners for choosing Maxwell Roofing as your trusted partner for your reroofing project. As a family-owned business with decades of experience in Nashville, we always enjoy partnering with companies that have also been a part of our community for years.

Photo by The Woman’s Club of Nashville

Founded in 1909, The Woman’s Club of Nashville was founded by a group of young women who wanted to become effective advocates of public good—especially in the areas of philanthropy, the needs of children, and the rights of women. The organization was the first women’s civic club founded in the state of Tennessee.

More than 100 years later, its members are still making a difference in the Nashville community. With more than 115 members, The Woman’s Club of Nashville continues to gather, learn new things, and develop lasting relationships.

The Opportunity

The Woman’s Club of Nashville gathers at the J.B. Daniel House, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. An adjacent building, known as Haley Hall, was built in 1977 to support the organization’s growing needs and provide additional space to host events and receptions.

In 2022, the organization’s committee recognized the need to replace the roof of Haley Hall and asked their members for roofing company recommendations. A board member from Ladies of Charity recommended Maxwell Roofing. The organization met with various roofing companies before eventually selecting Maxwell Roofing for their reroofing project.

The Solution

Maxwell Roofing began the project in the fall of 2022, working alongside The Woman’s Club Housing Committee to address any particular concerns or questions. Recognizing the opportunity to work within certain constraints, the Maxwell Roofing team offered a thorough estimate, creative suggestions, and informative updates during the project to ensure it was completed on time and on budget.

Maxwell Roofing’s professionalism made a difference for The Woman’s Club of Nashville throughout the reroofing project. “They provided quick responses, suggestions, and informative emails,” explained Diana Gray, WCN House Chair. “We are very satisfied and would recommend them for a job well done.”

As a company that believes in empowering the next generation of female construction professionals, we’re honored to serve The Woman’s Club of Nashville for their re-roofing needs. We are grateful that the organization enjoyed our partnership as much as we enjoyed working with them.

Client Spotlight: Indian Lake Peninsula Church

Photo by: Indian Lake Peninsula Church

Leaders in the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville founded Indian Lake Peninsula Church in 1969 in order to reach parishioners on the other side of Hendersonville. The church has grown over the years and includes two pastors, two full-time staff to run the office, six employees on the ministerial staff, and 15 employees running the Mother’s Day Out Program.

The church serves the community of Indian Lake Peninsula not only through Sunday services but also through midweek community gatherings on Wednesdays and other group events throughout the week. Beyond church activities, Indian Lake Peninsula Church also serves as a space for civic groups and sports leagues in the community.

The Opportunity

In 2018 and 2019, Indian Lake Peninsula Church underwent a major remodel to upgrade its building. The church’s general contractor, Hardaway Construction, connected the church with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal. The church needed significant roofing work done and needed a roofer that could coordinate closely with their HVAC company.

The Solution

After contracting Maxwell for construction on the main church building, the church’s leadership asked them to bid again on a re-roof for the office.

“Maxwell did a great job with our worship center roof, so when it came time to redo our office roof, we started with Maxwell. However, we wanted to do our due diligence and had a few other companies bid on the project,” said Drew Altom, the administrative pastor at the church. “One told us it would be months before they could even get materials, meanwhile Maxwell was ready to start to help us fix several leaks we had.”

Maxwell’s commitment to tracking roofing warranties is what sealed the deal for the church. Through Maxwell’s planned maintenance program, Indian Lake Peninsula Church can rest assured that the roof will be inspected and maintained regularly.

The ultimate factor was the ability to have one company that we can call for all of our warranty work. One call does it all!” Drew explained.

We wanted a vested relationship. That spoke volumes to them. More than just attending to repairs, they also let us know when something else needs replacing or if there are possible warranty issues on the horizon.” JLL-Mars also values that they can always depend on seeing the same Maxwell Roofing service technician who knows their facility inside-out.

When asked how Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. improves the JLL-Mars facilities, LeTourneu explained, “We had a four-year leak in our dry goods warehouse. LeTourneau affirms, “You should always choose peace of mind over price. We won’t haggle over peace of mind. Client Spotlight: Horrell Company

Serving the Nashville Area with 60 years of Commercial Real Estate Experience

The Client

One of Middle Tennessee’s leading commercial real estate firms, Horrell Company specializes in real estate brokerage services in leasing and sales, tenant representation, property management, development consulting, and acquisitions for commercial and investment properties in Nashville and throughout the Middle Tennessee market. With 60 years of experience, Horrell Company has built a trusted reputation with its family-owned and operated legacy, core values, and quality service.

Horrell Company’s founder, Thomas Henry Horrell, started Horrell Refrigeration in 1943, providing refrigeration to local grocery stores. Horrell Properties, Inc. was later formed in 1946 and became a flourishing business that gradually evolved into site consultation and development services to grocers. With the purchase of a Sidco Drive and Thompson Lane property in 1955, Horrell Properties, Inc. expanded the business to include commercial real estate, including real estate development, brokerage, and management.

Henry and his sons, Fred and Steve, sold the refrigeration business in 1972 to devote full-time to real estate development, brokerage services, and property management under the name, Horrell Realty and Investments. The company became Horrell Company in 2005 and is the brokerage arm of the Horrell family business. Horrell Company is now led by Steve Horrell as its president and co-brokers, Laura Grider, Ben McKnight, and Mike Russell. Steve, Laura, Ben, and Mike, represent over 100 combined years of experience in Middle Tennessee Commercial Real Estate Sales and Leasing. “I believe what makes Horrell Company unique is that we’re a boutique operation in an ocean of national companies,” says Steve Horrell. “Because of our longevity, we have a real place in the commercial real estate business that includes around 400 tenants from office to retail to industrial to warehousing,” he adds.

The Opportunity

Horrell Company’s now seven-year relationship with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. began when the Maxwell team reached out to Horrell Company in their process of changing roofing vendors. “We were immediately impressed with the accessibility and quality of Maxwell’s team and services,” affirms Steve. To date, Maxwell Roofing provides ongoing commercial roof maintenance and gutter work for Horrell Company’s facilities. When it comes to what made Horrell Company choose Maxwell Roofing over another roofing company, Steve says “We love that Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. is a local, family-owned and operated business much like ours. We had always heard great things about the Maxwell team, and now, we can attest to the company’s reliability and quality of work, which makes them stand out from other roofing vendors.”

The Solution

As for what makes the relationship with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. so good, Steve says it is their attention to detail and their execution of processes. “With Maxwell Roofing, you can always get someone on the phone, and their follow-up time is second to none.” Steve explains that the biggest potential issue in the world of commercial property management (aside of mechanical issues) are roofs. “Since Horrell Company is a part of the MAXCare program, the Maxwell Roofing team does an annual update for us, which is extremely helpful because we have partners who want to see the latest roofing surveys. MAXCare sets Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. apart from their competitors,” affirms Steve.

For other businesses considering Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc.’s services, Steve encourages exploring what the Maxwell team has to offer. He explains, “When you’re a property manager, and a roofing issue appears, accessibility matters.” A perfect example of that for Steve was when Horrell Company had a roofing issue to arise on a Sunday. He emailed the Maxwell team with pictures and assuming to hear back on Monday. However, it came as no surprise to Steve when Maxwell’s Service Account Manager, Kalen Canady, emailed him back the same day. “That’s the kind of difference in Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc.’s level of care that has helped them maintain their high-ranking reputation throughout Middle Tennessee,” says Steve, who looks forward to the continued partnership with the Maxwell team.

Among the many inspiring and significant moves of God, the church has witnessed is its growth through seven regional campuses through the Middle Tennessee Initiative. With more growth in sight and a church multiplication mission to establish 100 healthy congregations in Middle Tennessee and beyond, the church body and leadership is enthusiastic to see what God will do in the future.

They currently employs around 120 staff members, including lead pastor, Mike Glenn, who’s been in his role since 1991. Under Glenn’s leadership, the church has grown to a membership of over 10,000. Many things make Brentwood Baptist Church unique, such as its well-known reputation of being a multi-site, multi-cultural congregation that includes the Deaf Church, the Chinese Church, the Hispanic Ministry, as well as its seven regional campuses—Brentwood Baptist Church (central campus in Brentwood), The Church at Avenue South, The Church at Station Hill, The Church at West Franklin, The Church at Woodbine, The Church at Lockeland Springs, and The Church at Nolensville.

The Opportunity

As they prepared for its Lockeland Springs campus merger, they called upon Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. for a roofing repair and maintenance quote, which then led to them calling upon the Maxwell Roofing team for some additional general repair work. “Because of Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc.’s timeliness and the inviting relational experience with their company representatives, we quickly liked our service experience, and their team did what they said they would do,” says Eric Pogue, Project Manager. “With Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc.’s trusted reputation and commitment to Middle Tennessee, they were a perfect match for our Middle Tennessee Initiative, which has brought additional facility maintenance and roofing service needs for our regional campuses,” Pogue adds.

Brentwood Baptist needed great working relationships and a company who could be readily available as they add new campuses and maintain current ones. Pogue explains, “We want a roofing partner we can depend on. You can only hope the first phone call will be the only call you have to make when it comes to emergency repairs or leaks. Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. has met and exceeded those expectations for us.”

“Since 2015, Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. has maintained the partnership, with Maxwell’s team providing the church services ranging from entire roof replacements to preventative maintenance to service calls for leaks or additions and more. Maxwell’s team has serviced all our campuses in some form or fashion. They are accessible, dependable, and personable, which speaks to their high-quality of work,” says Pogue.

The Solution

What makes the relationship with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal so good for them? Pogue says it’s the genuine working relationship. “I’ve been to several of Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc.’s functions, and the Maxwell family (John, Kathleen, and David) and team genuinely care about their customers,” affirms Pogue. They has seen their facilities continue to improve because of the Maxwell Roofing team’s commitment to protect the envelope of its buildings. “It doesn’t matter the amount of work we do inside if we can’t protect it from the outside,” says Pogue.

For other businesses or organizations considering Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc.’s services, Pogue suggests giving them the opportunity to provide a quote or perform a service. “The Maxwell difference is very evident once you engage with them,” says Pogue. He also appreciates that Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. is a family-owned company with a strong legacy, which is not something you can always find in the Nashville area. Pogue explains, “Several other roofing companies let us down, didn’t follow up, and required repeat phone calls. Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc.’s service aspect is second to none. We weeded out the “no-nonsense” and are proud to now engage with a vendor like Maxwell, who meets our needs in the best ways and with the highest quality.”

They came quickly to inspect and present a comprehensive maintenance plan that we couldn’t refuse,” affirms Victor.

Ensworth School has now been working with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. for over two years. Their work began at with the lower school at Red Gables and quickly extended to the high school campus. Among the services that Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. provides to Ensworth School are annual roof assessments, yearly preventative maintenance that includes inspecting and assessing potential problems, and forecasting for the longevity of our facilities’ roofs, which helps Victor and his team with budgeting. “It’s better to know any potential roofing problems or needs upfront than have surprises throughout the year,” says Victor. “As a facilities guy, you can’t always use who you want to use, but with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc., we got lucky,” he adds.

Blue, John Blue Realty serves Huntsville, Alabama and the entire North Alabama region as a respected leader in leasing, real estate development and construction, property management, and asset management. Headquartered in Huntsville, John Blue Realty is proud to be a full-service commercial real estate brokerage company that offers a complete approach to commercial real estate, including its development division, Blue Development.

As a trusted and respected family company, John D. Blue opened the business after more than 40 years of experience in the real estate industry. Eighteen years later, John Blue Realty employs a team of 10 professionals and serves a broad range of clients, including commercial buyers, sellers, investors, and tenants looking for new office, retail, and warehouse space. Additionally, John Blue Realty assists current tenants who want to purchase or build their own buildings. As for a typical day at John Blue Realty, “We always have new projects under development, new property searches for buyers, showings of listings, and maintaining our property management holdings,” says Tamara French, who handles Commercial Real Estate, Sales/Leasing, and Property Management at the company.

The Opportunity

John Blue Realty first discovered Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal after multiple negative experiences with several other roofing companies. “From working with local roofing vendors to companies in Atlanta and Birmingham, we were getting discouraged until a friendly competitor recommended Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal to us. We have been greatly impressed by their service and maintenance response ever since,” affirms French. Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal has been providing service to John Blue Realty for two years now, including total roof replacements to leak repairs.

“What made our experience so much better with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal versus other companies is their excellent photo reports of problems they find and fix. If larger repairs are necessary, they also prepare a detailed photo report, along with their recommended solutions and quotes. For us, that is perfection,” says French. These photo completion reports can be shared with John Blue Realty’s tenants to show what the problem was and that it is fixed. As tenants often never hear back from landlords to know if a problem is fixed, French says this is major customer service differentiator for Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal.

The Solution

What makes John Blue Realty’s relationship with Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal so good? French can’t say enough good things about the Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal team’s intentional approach to customer service and communicating with clients and their tenants about service issues and repair completions. “Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal’s relational service approach has only made the daily workflow of John Blue Realty more efficient and seamless,” says French.
