TN State Library & Archives

Located at 1001 5th Ave North in Nashville, Tennessee, the new Tennessee State Library & Archives (TSLA) currently operates as a unit of the Tennessee Department of State. Established in 1854, the mission of the TSLA is to collect and preserve books and records of historical, documentary, and reference value, and to encourage and promote library development throughout the state. Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. partnered with Turner Construction to construct the Gray Fleeceback TPO roof for the TSLA’s new 165,000 square foot home. The project was completed on December 2, 2020 after an eventful yet successful year and four months of work.

Weathering the Challenges of Construction During a Tornado

The construction of the TSLA project took a direct hit from a March 3, 2020 tornado that stormed through downtown Nashville. The tornado’s aftermath led to the Maxwell team needing to completely tear off and re-install the recently-installed new roof. Maxwell Roofing attributes the ultimate success of this project to its trustworthy working relationship with Turner Construction and all additional partners involved in the completion of the project.

“After the completion of the roof scope of work, the project took a direct hit by an F3 tornado. The end result was significant damage to the entire building envelope, causing the need for a complete reroof. Maxwell Roofing presented a thorough plan and an aggressive schedule to tear off the roof they had just finished installing and re-roofed the building in a timely manner. The Maxwell team was there when I needed them and, as usual, remained responsive to all issues.”
