At Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal, our success depends on the skill, dedication, and passion of our team. One of those key team members is Michael Szachnitowski, a sheet metal foreman whose work helps ensure the final details of our roofing projects are both structurally sound and visually impressive.
Finding His Fit in Commercial Roofing
Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Michael has spent most of his life working in construction. His career began in residential remodeling and renovation, but everything changed when he moved to Nashville in 2016. That’s when he found his place in the commercial roofing industry—a transition that felt like a natural fit thanks to his hands-on experience in the field.
“All of my construction experience ties into the work that I do now,” Michael says. “Every job is different and has its own unique situations that need to be figured out. That’s where prior experience comes into play.”
Michael’s path to Maxwell Roofing has included more than one chapter. He originally joined the company several years ago and spent about two years at Maxwell before leaving briefly to help his brother launch a business. But it didn’t take long for Michael to realize sheet metal work is what he was meant to do. He returned to Maxwell Roofing and has been back on the team for the past two years.
Planning, Problem-Solving, and Getting the Job Done
As a sheet metal foreman, Michael’s day starts early. He’s in the shop by 6 a.m., connecting with superintendents to plan the day’s work and gathering the materials needed before heading to the job site. Once there, he oversees material unloading, coordinates safety protocols with the general contractor, and leads his crew in installing custom sheet metal.
“Installing metal in the field can be very challenging,” Michael explains. “Fabrication in the shop is much easier because we can control all the variables. In the field, we have to work alongside other trades and build on top of their work.”
Despite the challenges, Michael takes pride in getting the details right, especially when it comes to aesthetics.
“The metal is what the customer always sees,” he shared. “They don’t see the field membrane, but they all notice the metal trim around it.”
One of Michael’s favorite projects was working on the Lowe’s Hotel at Vanderbilt, where he installed copper panels that made a striking visual impact.
“I really enjoyed installing the copper panels, and they looked amazing when finished.”
Relaxing and Recharging
Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time in the great outdoors. Whether he’s camping, kayaking, or riding dirt bikes and side-by-sides, he finds peace and adventure in nature.
Maxwell Roofing is proud to have Michael on our team. His craftsmanship, problem-solving skills, and commitment to quality play an essential role in every project he touches. We are so grateful he chose to bring his talents back to Maxwell Roofing & Sheet Metal.
